quirk of dayuse is a personal blog of mine. I use this site to post thoughts of the day (or what’s to come), a few little sketches here and there, and some pretty neat-o comics.

Currently, I have no professional training in the visual arts field, other than experience from a slew of fine art courses from Sir John A. Macdonald Secondary School (Hamilton, ON), including Animation and Drawing/Painting. As well, I’ve worked as a volunteer graphic and logo designer for many non-profit organizations and websites/blogs:

So please, enjoy yourself and tell me what you think!

COMIC PROJECTS

Premise: Cedric Tuyen goes home.

Belonging to a pretty wealthy family, Cedric was able to attend the Academy of Art in San Fransisco and graduate. Since he has nowhere to go at the moment, his family helps to fly him back to his home in Hamilton, a somewhat quiet yet urban city in Southern Ontario.

Throughout all of his life, he realises that with people such as his family and relatives, he’s had problems blending in with other Vietnamese people. His experiences as a loner at a young age made him grow with interests and dislikes different from his race.

As he heads home, Cedric plans to go on a personal journey of self-discovery and identity. His old high school friends join to help him understand if he is or is not crazy to do such an analysis, as well as help themselves understand if race and heritage is important enough to make people different.

Jim Michael and Alana Li-Phan are two UWaterloo students that have been dating since Grade 12 when they were in high school together. Like many other good couples, they keep no secrets from each other. However, unlike those couples, they seriously share everything together! This comic is a slice-of-life, one-panel-at-a-time view of these two clever, open-minded kids.

Originally a “random” gag comic, I added continuity to it by using two characters I drew up for a sex column by Shayna Sparling (WARNING: NSFW Blog). From then, the comic started May 2007.

Deathblossom is a fictional idea that has been swimming in my head since my early years of high school, and is my favourite creation as of late.

Dak and Lory Meryl are two eccentric kids in the near future. These twins are the results of a secret military experiment developed by a third-party organization in Toronto known as Dayugen Corp. After escaping the facility and erasing their records, they stumbled upon a young woman named Elly, who cared for them like a mother over the years. Life seemed so peaceful, and the twins thought for a time that they were safe from Dayugen. That is, until their house burned down, along with Elly inside the house.

Six years pass on, and although the case of the fire was closed long ago, Dak and Lory, now at age appearances of 16 years, still look to find more about the truth of Elly’s death and of their existance.

As a near-future, science fiction, action adventure comic, Deathblossom is inspired by classic Chinese action and futuristic military films. I am pleased to announce that the comic now exists.

A comic commentary on the world of gaming, Elena and Jared share their opinions and ideas based on the newest of the video game market!

I was fortunate enough to work with Ned Fetterhoff of “Videogameplayerz” to revive Elena and Jared and use them as avatars in a video game comic. Currently, Elena and Jerry (previously “Jared”) can be found in Impression.
